270 tons of boulders have been dumped into Lake Norman to create two of the largest deep water habitats ever for bass, bluegill and other fish. The reefs were established just North and South of the 150 bridge in about 30 feet of water. The boulders should provide a great habitat for small fish, which can now hide from predators in the tiny spaces between the rocks. Fishermen will probably find larger fish around the reefs looking for the feeder fish. We will continue to monitor the dumping sites to measure how successful the reefs are working. If successful, we will look into creating more reefs around the lake. Below find map of Lake Norman with the location of current artificial reefs: |
