Tangled Monofilament Line to be Recycled

This project was established to help reduce the amount of monofilament fishing line littering the water and shores of Lake Norman. These discarded fishing lines endanger the wildlife around the lake as well as the environment. Swimmers and dogs are also at risk from entanglements and the line can also damage boat propellers.

The project starts with the placement of fishing line receptacles around the lake so tangled or damaged monofilament line can be discarded properly for recycling. Periodically the receptacles are then emptied, packaged in mailing boxes and sent out for recycling.

Part of the project will also include the education and notification of the public about this project and how they can help make it successful.

Below find map of Lake Norman with the location of current recycling receptacles.
