Osprey Nest activities include:
Businesses or individuals who would
like to help
sponsor the Osprey program can call Steve Turley at 704-309-0762 or
the NCWF at 704-332-5696.
Businesses and individuals are being sought to
help sponsor the building of these platforms. These are
installed on Lake Norman to help keep these "fish hawks"
safe during nesting season, before their long trip back to South
America where they spend their winters.
Thus far, twelve platforms have been
erected on high poles at various points on the lake. Duke Energy and
the Lake Norman Marine Commission approve of the pole locations and
the LNWC is only involved in the installation of the nesting platforms
and has no part in the decision making of the locations of the nests. Led by Steve
Turley of U.S. Home Designs and Mark Lancaster of Lancaster Custom Dock
& Lift, the LNWC plans to install three more platforms this year.
After the nest are installed monitoring is necessary
to determine the success of the nesting birds of prey and their young.
Pairs normally return year after year to the same nest. If you would
like to help monitor the nesting sites click here
for a monitoring data sheet and send your finding to info@lakenormanwildlife.org.
